The Yankees’ have won 27 of their 40 after an 8-7 start to build a 35-20 record that has them leading the AL East by 6 ½ games. The Dodgers have been crushed by pitching injuries, but Shohei Ohtani is having another sensational season and they’re leading the tough NL West with a 34-20 record.
The Yankees, behind more brilliant starting pitching and a pieced-together effort from a bullpen that had, because of recent overuse, Luke Weaver and Devin Williams on Aaron Boone’s no-fly list, completed a three-game sweep of the Angels with a 1-0 victory in front of 36,808 at Angel Stadium.
The Dodgers gave Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty his World Series ring on the field at Dodger Stadium on March 30. Flaherty made two appearances for the Dodgers in the World Series, including starting the deciding Game 5. Flaherty agreed to a two-year, $35-million deal with the Tigers in the offseason.
Jazz Chisholm started a rehab assignment with the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate Somerset Patriots on Thursday.
