Air India will see progress on various key initiatives, including refitting of wide body and narrow body planes, in 2025.

Tata Sons successfully merged Singapore Airlines-trained Vistara into Air India to create the country’s largest and only full-service carrier.

The year 2024 was transformative for Air India and Indian aviation in many ways following the completion of two major mergers — Air India Express with AirAsia India and Air India with Vistara.

Air India aims to achieve profitability by enhancing operational efficiency, starting with refitting its narrowbody aircraft. The refurbishment of widebody planes will begin in 2025. The airline has reduced its net loss and increased revenue.

After taking over the loss-making Air India from the government in January 2022, Tata Group has been working on an ambitious transformation plan to turn around the airline, which recently also placed orders for 100 more aircraft.
