The request comes as the Senate is set to debate government funding for immigration enforcement, following two fatal shootings in Minneapolis by federal officers.

"When we gaslight and contradict what the public can plainly see with their own eyes, we lose all credibility," one DHS official said.

The Trump administration is receiving pushback from gun rights advocates after the 37-year-old was killed while armed at a Minnesota protest.

Video footage of Pretti’s killing refutes claims from officials that the protester was attacking law enforcement or “brandishing” his gun.

Trey Gowdy criticized the Trump’s administration’s narrative of Pretti as a terrorist.

Footage from at least one of the videos appears to show a federal officer disarming the victim before shots are fired.
