Purdue tops preseason AP Top 25 poll for 1st time, ahead of Houston and reigning NCAA champ Florida
Purdue is No. 1 in the preseason Associated Press men’s college basketball poll for the first time. The Boilermakers earned 35 of 61 first-place votes to top Monday’s AP Top 25 poll to begin the 2025-26 season.
The Wolverines also dropped out of the AP Top 25 poll for the first time this season, as they are now 1-2 against Power Four conference opponents with a record above .500. Sherrone Moore is also just 11-7 in his 18 games as Michigan's coach.

The Boilermakers earned 35 of 61 first-place votes to top Monday's poll to begin the 2025-26 season. That put Matt Painter's squad ahead of the two teams that played in last year's NCAA title game, with runner-up Houston at No. 2 and reigning champion Florida at No. 3.
Rounding out the top five of the poll is St. John's. The Red Storm reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 under coach Rick Pitino and will be one of the favorites to win the Big East alongside UConn.
