Arch Manning's tenure as Texas' full-time starting quarterback begins with a bang on Aug. 30, when the Longhorns travel to Ohio State in a rematch from the College Football Playof

Texas Longhorns backup quarterback Arch Manning was a major talking point all season, with fans repeatedly calling for him to take over the starting job from Quinn Ewers, who has held the position for the past three years. Those conversations continued during Texas’ 28-14 loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinals last Friday.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers will declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, he announced Wednesday. The decision ends his career with the Longhorns and clears the way for Arch Manning to start in 2025.  Ewers came to Austin as a transfer from Ohio State with tremendous hype as the first perfectly-rated quarterback in the 247Sports Composite since Vince Young.

Texas junior quarterback Quinn Ewers declared for the NFL draft on Wednesday, ending a Longhorns career in which he led the program to a Big 12 championship and twice to the College Football Playoff but was not always embraced by a fan base eagerly waiting for Arch Manning to take over.

Manning's first game as the unquestioned face of Texas football will be against the same team Ewers faced in his last: Ohio State in Week 1.

The Texas Longhorns will have high expectations going into 2025 after finishing two consecutive seasons in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Quinn Ewers has not officially announced his intentions for 2025, but the junior quarterback said before the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday that he expects to enter April's draft.

Ewers, who was born in Texas, began his career at Ohio State before transferring to Texas where he started for three years, threw 68 touchdowns and led the Longhorns to two CFP appearances. This past year he held off Arch Manning, who will now take his spot as the team's starting quarterback.
