After a “brief struggle” with police, the suspected burglar became unresponsive after being taken into custody.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin battled mental-health issues, and his relatives were seeking medical assistance before he died, the family said.

"While attempting to detain the individual, a brief struggle ensued," the department said, adding Martin became unresponsive and was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
