The Durand Line, spanning roughly 2,640 kilometres (1,640 miles), was established in 1893 by British diplomat Sir Henry Mortimer Durand in collaboration with Afghanistan's ruler, Amir Abdur Rahman Khan.
Taliban forces have taken control of several Pakistani militaryposts along the Durand Line. This action follows a Pakistani airstrike near Kabul earlier this week. The Afghan Ministry of Defense confirmed that the Taliban-led forces seized positions in Kunar and Helmand provinces.
Kabul claimed the assault was a response to repeated violations of Afghan territory and airspace by Pakistan, and said 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed.
