An MP has criticised the speed at which flood warnings are issued by the Environment Agency. Sarah Bool, Conservative MP for South Northamptonshire, raised the issue during a debate on flooding at the House of Commons on Monday.

The Environment Agency (EA) has issued updated flood warnings for the areas around five main rivers in Devon. The River Avon, Clyst, Lew, Taw and Torridge are being closely monitored due to to heavy rainfall, the EA said. It strongly urged residents to take action as "flooding continues to be expected on Sunday evening and into Monday".

The Environment Agency has issued 164 flood warnings and 320 flood alerts across the UK as wintry weather continues to wreak havoc. in a 1.48pm update flooding is to be expected in 164 areas, including in Warrington and there is potential of possible flooding in Wirral, Maghull, Formby, St Helens and Widnes.

Yellow warnings for snow and ice come into force across large parts of the UK on Monday afternoon and will remain in place into Tuesday. Many commuters suffered travel disruption on Monday morning, with major roads closed and railway lines blocked.
