The first full moon of the year is set to rise after much of Tennessee will see some of the first snowfall of 2025. January's full moon, known as the wolf moon, comes after the Volunteer State and much of the South is expected to be blanketed in snow from a major winter storm pushing up from the Mexico/Texas border.

The January full moon was called the "Center Moon" by the Assiniboine people of the Northern Great Plains, according to the Farmer's Almanac, which noted that the name "refers to the idea that this moon roughly marks the middle of the cold season."

Look for the January full moon to rise from the eastern horizon around sunset, according to NASA. By midnight, the wolf moon should glow bright and round overhead before disappearing at sunrise into the western horizon.
