Justin Fields’ starting role hangs in balance as Jets look to crack win column vs. Panthers
The Jets quarterback is coming off one of the worst passing performances in franchise history, and the question entering Sunday’s game against the Panthers is whether he will be the starting quarterback when it finishes.
Star receiver and Fields’ favorite target Garrett Wilson is doubtful due to a knee injury. The Jets’ other receivers, Josh Reynolds, Allen Lazard, rookie Arian Smith and Tyler Johnson, have 20 catches combined – 16 fewer than Wilson.
Justin Fields wants to take more risks on the field. The New York Jets' offense has struggled, with Fields throwing no interceptions but also lacking big plays.
To be sure, Fields' numbers are pretty ugly. Heading into Week 7 he ranks 31st in the NFL in QBR (32.1). While he hasn't thrown an interception yet he only has 799 passing yards (29th) and just four touchdown passes (also 29th) to go with three rushing touchdowns.
