President Donald Trump’s controversial plan to take a cut of revenue from chip sales to China has US companies reconsidering their plans for business with the country, offering a model for circumventing years of trade tensions.

Beijing needs to send Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang a thank-you note. Nvidia and fellow chip maker AMD are so hell-bent on selling to China that they even agreed to be taxed 15% by the U.S. government on their China sales. Washington gets tax revenue; China gets free lobbying against export restrictions.
