The Toronto Blue Jays are headed to their first World Series since 1993 after a dramatic 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Despite losing the first two games of the ALCS and trailing the Seattle Mariners 3-1 late into the do-or-die Game 7 on Monday night, George Springer, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays completed the multi-layered comeback to punch their first ticket to the World Series in more than three decades.
George Springer put Toronto ahead with a three-run home run in the seventh inning and the Blue Jays advanced to the World Series for the first time since 1993.
Their much-heralded rebuild in the post-José Bautista/Edwin Encarnación era, with their construction around a whole new generation of young players, had resulted in exactly six postseason games. Every single one of them was a loss, across three fruitless trips to the AL Wild Card Series.
