"Wayne Lukas reinvented the game," Lanny Kohnhorst, the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association's Director of Horsemen's Relations. "Wayne produced champions, from Grade 1 winners to stallion prospects to next generation of trainers, and defined American Thoroughbred racing."

A jam-packed weekend of Thoroughbred racing was overshadowed by the news that legendary trainer D. Wayne Lukas died peacefully Saturday at age 89 after a career of personal accomplishment and devotion to the industry.

D. Wayne Lukas won 15 Triple Crown races, including six in a row and 20 Breeders' Cup world championships during his accomplished career.
