The Minnesota Vikings got bad news on J.J. McCarthy, who is unlikely to start this week, and Carson Wentz, who still has a hurt shoulder.
Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell announced Tuesday that Wentz will make his fourth consecutive start for Thursday night's road game against the Los Angeles Chargers. O'Connell added that McCarthy isn't quite ready to go after putting him through an on-field workout earlier in the day.
The Vikings have been without quarterback J.J. McCarthy ever since he suffered an ankle injury in Week 2. With McCarthy sidelined, Carson Wentz has taken over as Minnesota's starting quarterback.
Carson Wentz will start yet again for the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Chargers, but J.J. McCarthy's potential return may not be far off.
Running back Aaron Jones returned to practice as he works his way back from a hamstring injury. He was limited. Fullback C.J. Ham (hand) and offensive lineman Brian O'Neill (knee) remained out of practice, and running back Zavier Scott (wrist) and linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel (neck) still were limited.
After McCarthy's ankle injury was originally announced by Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell, reports indicated that the quarterback could miss anywhere from two-to-four weeks, which would have put him—at the latest—in line to start in their Week 7 game against the Eagles.
