QB Carson Wentz will start again for Vikings with J.J. McCarthy "just not there," coach says
Carson Wentz will make his fifth straight start at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, with J.J. McCarthy lacking time in a shortened week to keep building up his sprained right ankle.
The Vikings have been without quarterback J.J. McCarthy ever since he suffered an ankle injury in Week 2. With McCarthy sidelined, Carson Wentz has taken over as Minnesota's starting quarterback.
Carson Wentz and the Minnesota Vikings head to SoFi Stadium on Thursday at 8:15 p.m. ET to take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8 after he threw for 313 yards in his most recent game. Wentz is currently listed on this week's injury report (full participation in practice, shoulder). His game status was not designated on the latest report.

Receiver Jordan Addison slipped free over the middle for a 25-yard gain, and then turned around standout cornerback Quinyon Mitchell on the ensuing play for another 20-yard pickup. On the latter, Addison faked an inside move before cutting to the right sideline to haul in a pass to set Minnesota up in the red zone.

Running back Aaron Jones returned to practice as he works his way back from a hamstring injury. He was limited. Fullback C.J. Ham (hand) and offensive lineman Brian O'Neill (knee) remained out of practice, and running back Zavier Scott (wrist) and linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel (neck) still were limited.
