Google Maps includes elevation data in its bike routes, providing better directional guidelines for bikers or cycling enthusiasts treading uphill challenges. Oh and it’s for their safety, too!
Google says Maps already factored in elevation when determining routes for cyclists, but until now the elevation data wasn’t made easily visible.
First spotted by Mashable, the elevation feature for walking directions has been hiding in Google Maps, though we’re not exactly sure for how long.
Built by The Oregonian/OregonLive, the map allows you to look up the elevation at your home or to see which parts of the tri-county area are above certain elevation thresholds.
