In a landmark decision, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced the removal of the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) by January 5, 2025.

The repeal of WEP and GPO applies retroactively to benefits payable from January 2024. Eligible retirees have received substantial retroactive payments, averaging $6,710.
