The Kauaʻi Invasive Species Committee says a live mongoose was recently captured on Kauai, where the invasive predator has not yet established a population.
At 5 p.m., Kiko had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, centered 150 miles northeast of Honolulu and moving west-northwest at 14 mph, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center. Tropical storm-force winds extend up to 90 miles to the north of Kiko’s center.
A live mongoose has been captured on Kauai, where the invasive species does not have an established population.
