A recent jobs report extended a lackluster run of labor data that stretches back to the beginning of the summer. While the unemployment rate stands at a historically low level, millions of out-of-work Americans face stiff conditions.

New data shows the US job market was much weaker than thought in 2024, and this year as well
The Labor Department reported Tuesday that employers added 911,000 fewer jobs than originally reported from April 2024 through March. The department issues the so-called benchmark revisions every year.
The government revised its numbers from earlier in the summer and said the economy lost a net 13,000 jobs in June. It was the first such decline since December 2020.
