Technically, the New York City Marathon finish line each year closes at 10 p.m., and this year’s race saw a record-breaking 59,226 competitors log official times to make it the largest marathon ever. But the cutoff doesn’t mean the Big Apple party stops before the last person out on the course completes the full journey through the five boroughs.
Some 55,000 people came out to race through the five boroughs on a sunny Sunday. As the sun rose on Sunday, runners from all over New York City, the greater metropolitan area and the world hopped on the Staten Island Ferry to make their way to the start of the 54th New York City Marathon on Sunday.
