New York City has filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration for the seizure of over $80 million in FEMA funds.

New York City is taking the Trump administration to court over its decision to clawback more than $80 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency funds for migrant shelters. The New York City Law Department filed a lawsuit on Friday alleging that the "long arm of the federal government" illegally seized the FEMA funds

New York City sued the Trump administration on Friday for clawing back $80.5 million of grants intended to cover part of the city's cost of housing migrants.

The $80 million in funding was clawed back after the Trump administration claimed the money was being used to house migrants in “luxury hotels.”

The suit alleges that FEMA abused its authority in removing money from the city’s central treasury account seven days after it was received.

The Department of Homeland Security says four federal employees have been fired over payments to reimburse New York City for hotel costs for migrants.

New York City officials said the city had received two payments from the federal government as reimbursement for expenses the city incurred while providing services to migrants who arrived in New York,
