The National Guard has exceeded its fiscal 2025 recruiting goals with the Air National Guard and Army National Guard combining to recruit nearly 50,000 new enlistees, officials announced Sept. 23.

About 120 soldiers from the Michigan Army National Guard will be deployed Friday to the U.S. southern border to assist federal law enforcement. The Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs announced the move Thursday, Oct. 16, saying the soldiers are anticipated to be deployed for up to a year.

The Trump administration has been given the green light to send the Oregon National Guard into Portland after a federal appeals court on Monday overturned a lower court’s order to bar the deployment – but there’s one more legal hurdle to clear before there will boots on the ground in one of the several Democrat-led cities targeted for Guard deployment.
