A major snowstorm brought the highest snow totals the Triad has seen in years

ATLANTA — Accumulating snow arrives overnight and Saturday morning at the beginning of a prolonged cold snap to the region, during which much of north Georgia will spend 60+ hours at or below freezing.

Wednesday is a First Alert Weather Day as parts of north Georgia are seeing snow in the mountain areas. Atlanta News First has a crew in Blue Ridge, where the snow started falling lightly around 6 a.m.

Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) crews spread brine across most major roads on Friday into Saturday morning. Crews will continue treating and plowing the roads, but officials warn residents to stay inside unless it’s an emergency.
