Washington has been on a medical leave since late June, but the team had never disclosed the nature of his condition. Washington visited the team on Monday in Texas and revealed the surgery.

Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington shed some light on the health issues that have kept him away from the team since June.

Washington managed the Rangers for eight years and led the club to its first two World Series trips. He resigned after the 2014 season as the team’s winningest manager with a 664–611 all-time record. The Angels hired him prior to last season.
