Grieving citizens in India's capital gathered Saturday to pay their respects to former prime minister Manmohan Singh ahead of the state funeral for the man acknowledged as responsible for the country's economic liberalization.

The veteran leader, who was also credited for a landmark nuclear deal with the United States, died late Thursday at age 92.

The body of Manmohan Singh, the former Indian prime minister whose death has spark outpourings of grief at home and accolades from abroad, was cremated on Sunday on the banks of the Yamuna River in New Delhi with full state honours.
