One person was dead and two missing in western Alaska after the remnants of Typhoon Halong brought hurricane-force winds and ravaging storm surges and floodwaters to the region.
Alaska residents are still coming to grips with the deadly flooding from the remnants of Typhoon Halong which wiped away villages and wreaked havoc on roads and homes. The record-setting storm left at least one person dead and damaged main roads and infrastructure, including a regional airport.
People from Kwigillingok and Kipnuk were evacuated to a 100-bed shelter set up in Bethel’s National Guard Armory. Local and regional organizations are collecting donations and fundraising to support families impacted by the remnants of Typhoon Halong.
Search and rescue crews responded Sunday afternoon to Kipnuk and Kwigillingok to search for missing people and rescue those displaced by the powerful storm system that impacted multiple coastal communities in Western Alaska.
