The eggs were sold under different brand names and may be contaminated, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The Hilmar-based company recalled 1.7 million dozen brown cage-free and brown certified organic eggs distributed to retail stores in California and Nevada, including Safeway, Raley’s, Food 4 Less, Lucky, Save Mart, FoodMaxx and Ralphs.

U.S. health officials confirmed the salmonella infections were linked to contaminated organic and cage-free brown eggs from August Egg Company. All recalled eggs should be thrown away, the CDC said.
