Storms, extreme heat, and wildfire risks are disrupting record-breaking Fourth of July travel, causing flight delays, road congestion, and safety warnings.

Travel agents said some of their clients are flocking to Europe, and those staying in the U.S. are prioritizing the destinations they can reach by car.

A record high of 72.2 million people are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home over the July Fourth holiday period (from June 28 to July 6), according to AAA. This is 1.7 million more people than last year and 7 million more than in 2019, according to AAA.
