Peru closed three quarters of its ports on Saturday as giant waves up to four meters (13 feet) high pummeled its coast, damaging boats and shops, officials said.

Peru's northern and central coasts were hit by unusually large waves, causing authorities to close 80 ports and several beaches. Despite wreaking havoc on coastal fishing communities, no human casualties were reported due to the high swells.
