Vice President JD Vance traveled to Israel as the U.S. tries to show that it will enforce a Gaza ceasefire deal that is off to a shaky start.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday called progress in Gaza’s fragile ceasefire better than anticipated but acknowledged during a visit to Israel the challenges that remain, from disarming Hamas to rebuilding a land devastated by two years of war.

The vice president noted flare-ups of violence in recent days but said the cease-fire between Israel and Hamas that began on Oct. 10 is going “better than I expected.”

Israel has completed the identification of the bodies of two more hostages, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Wednesday, as U.S. Vice President JD Vance held high-level meetings in Israel to nudge forward Gaza’s fragile ceasefire.
