A up-and-down debut season for Preston Spradlin at James Madison came to an end Sunday night in the Sun Belt Conference semifinals with an ice-cold shooting performance
After JMU held a 17-point lead at one point during the game Arkansas State outscored the Dukes 54-39 in the second half and overtime.
In James Madison’s season opener against No. 2 North Carolina, the Tar Heels spread out the Dukes’ offense. The Terps ran a similar defense and produced near-identical results. They consistently used double teams to force the ball out of Epke’s stick and prevent her from getting to her cuts and dodges.
Saturday’s contest was a near duplicate of that game. Seven Terps scored in a commanding 11-5 win over No. 12 James Madison at Sentara Park. James Madison’s goaltending had struggled in prior matchups. The Dukes (4-2) started the season with junior Caitlin Boden — who started the year ranked No. 18 in all-time saves and save percentage.
