After a year filled with animated inner emotions, mutants, aliens, gladiators and witches, the new year will bring a crop of new (or, newly revisited) movies to choose from, as always.

For all the talk of this being a weak one amid the bottleneck of post-strike releases and the halt on production altogether in 2023, 2024 was a rich one for independent and international fare, as well as (in some cases underappreciated) original studio fare.
