The NASCAR Xfinity Series is back at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez for the first time since 2008 with The Chilango 150 on June 14. The Xfinity Series had a four-year stretch of races in Mexico City in the 2000s as a standalone race.

Shane van Gisbergen won the pole for the Viva Mexico 250 in qualifying on Saturday, setting the fastest time (92.776, 93.904 mph) in a session that was cut short by rain. Van Gisbergen's pole is his first of the season and the second of his Cup career.

The road course in Mexico City has been repaved and reconfigured since the Xfinity Series' last visit with drivers tackling a 15-turn, 2.42-mile layout. There are 39 drivers on the entry list, and they all will race because of an international provisional that added a spot for a 39th qualifier (who will be ineligible for prize money or points).
