Federal authorities say it is likely being carried from farm to farm on objects like farm equipment or clothing that has touched a sick cow.

Northwest Naturals is recalling a line of its pet food after authorities Oregon linked the death of a cat to a batch contaminated with bird flu.

California officials have declared a state of emergency over the spread of bird flu, which is tearing through dairy cows in that state and causing sporadic illnesses in people in the U.S.

According to the county Department of Public Health in Los Angeles, the recalled products are packaged 2-pound plastic bags with “Best if used by” dates of May 21, 2026, B10 and June 23, 2026, B1. Pet owners were urged to immediately dispose of those products.

The California Department of Food and Agriculture has issued a statewide recall of raw milk produced and packaged by Valley Milk Simply Bottled after H5N1 bird flu virus was found in samples from a bulk tank at the company’s dairy farm.

A pet food company recalled a batch of one of its products after the Oregon Department of Agriculture blamed the product on the death of a house cat. The company told consumers in 12 states to throw out the product.

Northwest Naturals issued a voluntary recall for a batch of pet food after a cat died of bird flu in Oregon, officials said. Testing done by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Veterinary Services Laboratories and the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory confirmed an indoor cat in Oregon's Washington County contracted bird flu and died after eating the pet food.
