Both blockbusters earn $37-38 million this weekend while "Nosferatu" becomes Focus Features' biggest hit in five years

The Lion King” and Paramount’s “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” are duking it out for first place at the North American box office with each of the family friendly films bringing in roughly $60 million over the five days since Christmas.

The Lion King’ prequel had a bumpy start, debuting with a meager $35 million. While it's expected to make up some ground, 'Mufasa' still has ways to go.

It’s a tight race between the still speeding “Sonic 3” and the resurgent “Mufasa” for No. 1, with the hedgehog currently having the edge with an estimated $37.4 million Fri.-Sun. total that is just a 38% drop from its $60 million opening weekend. “Mufasa” is just behind with an estimated $35 million, matching its opening weekend total.
