The Elon Musk–led EV company is set to recall more than 13,000 cars built between March and August 2025 due to a battery issue that can cause a sudden loss in propulsion while driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that roughly one percent of those vehicles are affected.

Tesla has issued a recall for 12,963 Model 3 and Model Ys, per documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall population includes 5038 Model 3 sedans, all 2025 models;

The two big Teslas were removed from the Euro configurator in July, but now they’re back, boasting improvements and more gadgets.

Dan Ives, an analyst at Wedbush, said he was disappointed that the EVs were only about $5,000 cheaper than the next trims of the models.

The issue in certain 2025 Model 3 and 2026 Model Y vehicles could result in the driver losing the ability to accelerate the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash, the regulator said. Tesla said it will replace the affected battery pack contactor free of charge. The company did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
