Washington has been on a medical leave since late June, but the team had never disclosed the nature of his condition. Washington visited the team on Monday in Texas and revealed the surgery.

Washington, who at 73 is the oldest manager in the majors, said, "I feel great, I really do." He added he has quit smoking and changed his eating habits.

On Aug. 25, Washington addressed his health issues for the first time since leaving the team. He revealed that he recently underwent quadruple bypass heart surgery, and while he won't return to the Angels in 2025, he is hoping to have the opportunity to be back in 2026, per the AP.
