A man was shot and killed by Chicago police early Friday morning after allegedly advancing toward officers with a knife in the Little Village neighborhood.

Chicago police shot and killed a man during a call early Friday morning in Little Village. Officers were responding to a call of a person with a knife inside a sixth floor apartment near 21st and Sacramento.

A man who advanced toward officers holding an overnight was fatally wounded overnight at an apartment building in the Little Village neighborhood, Chicago police said. About 2:10 a.m. Friday, officers were alerted about a man with a knife inside a sixth-floor apartment in the 3000 block of West 21st Place.

Arriving officers knocked on an apartment door and were confronted by a man who pulled out a knife and lunged at officers.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating after a man armed with a knife was shot and killed by Chicago police on the city's West Side.
