DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings have defeated good teams during this five-game winning streak, but perhaps their most significant game was their humbling 5-1 loss in the season-opener.
What looked like an imposing stretch of hockey to begin the season for the Red Wings turned out better than most people could have expected.

Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin is off to a strong start in his 11th season, and on Monday was named the NHL’s No. 1 star of the week. Larkin led the league with four goals, nine points and a plus-7 rating in four games, helping the team extend its winning streak to five (5-1-0).
Emmitt Finnie has performed well since training camp and he now appears to be a mainstay in the lineup for the red-hot Red Wings.
