SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — Firefighters are battling a brush fire east of Julian, near Highway 78 and San Felipe Road, that is sending large plumes of smoke into the air that can be seen miles away.
Julian Fire initially started 3:41 p.m. June 12 in Santa Barbara County. It has been burning on private land for 18 hours. At this time, details about the containment or cause of the fire are unknown.
UPDATE (May 1, 10:26 p.m.): Cal Fire officials said the Felipe Fire just east of Julian was 50% contained after crews stopped the fire's forward rate of spread.
