DA-elect Kent Lovern said a staff member of the office opened a piece of mail containing a white substance, but there were no reports of any being sickened.

A Milwaukee County Jail inmate sent a suspicious substance to the district attorney, sparking a hazmat scare. FOX6 went behind the scenes with the team.

Hazmat crews responded to the Milwaukee County Safety Building for reports of a suspicious white powder being discovered on Monday afternoon.

Deputy District Attorney Kent Lovern said in a statement, "A staff member of the office opened a piece of mail containing a white substance. The item was opened in an isolated area of the office. Emergency personnel have responded to the office and no one is suffering any medical impact from the incident."

Chief Deputy District Attorney Kent Lovern told WISN 12 News a staffer opened a certified letter and discovered it had white powder in it.
