Officials are asking Panhandle residents to avoid being on the roads. Freezing temperatures mean icy, dangerous conditions.

“A lot of these roads, you look at it and it gives a false impression that it’s safe. We want to discourage folks from travelling these roads because underneath the snow is a lot of ice right now. Luckily during the daytime it is melting down, but we anticipate it to freeze,” said Deputy Chief Rowell.

What is black ice? Temperatures may have warmed up but some Houston-areas are still experiencing freezing temperatures which can cause a very thin layer of ice to accumulate on pavements.
