Alaska residents are still coming to grips with the deadly flooding from the remnants of Typhoon Halong which wiped away villages and wreaked havoc on roads and homes. The record-setting storm left at least one person dead and damaged main roads and infrastructure, including a regional airport.

The forecast for the powerful and deadly storm that battered small communities in western Alaska over the weekend was likely made worse by a lack of weather data triggered by the Trump administration’s cuts.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong tracked farther east than expected, slamming into the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta coast early on Sunday morning. Officials said Sunday afternoon that the hardest hit communities appeared to be Kipnuk, Kwigillingok and Napakiak.
