1997 Coca-Cola 600: Jeff Gordon’s Last Pass Keeps the Winston Million Alive

On May 25, 1997, Jeff Gordon passed Rusty Wallace shortly before rain and Charlotte’s 1 a.m. curfew ended the Coca-Cola 600 after 333 laps. The victory gave Gordon his second Winston Million crown jewel win of the season. Gordon later won the Southern 500 to become only the second driver to claim NASCAR’s $1 million bonus.
