We want a cockatoo because we've taught them to become "cuddly and affectionate", and when our cockatoo expects "cuddles & affection" 24/7, we relinquish them for being "too difficult and not having enough time for them", making cockatoos the most consistently relinquished parrot. By age 3, Ms. Angel was rehomed 3 times, but this common disastrous pattern is preventable. Today is Angel's 8th Rescue/Birthday and I'm happy to say, we broke that pattern for her!
