On December 15, 1935, the Tower Bridge opened in Sacramento, California. The bridge is still one of the most iconic and photographed landmarks in our city. The construction of Tower Bridge, London’s defining landmark, started in 1886 and took eight years and 432 labourers under the watchful eye of Sir John Wolfe Barry. It’s made of 11,000 tonnes of steel, clad in Cornish Granite and Portland Stone. The bridge was opened by the Prince and Princess of Wales with great celebrations, on 30th June, 1894.
