Before a performance in Las Vegas, Peggy Lee received a telegram from songwriter Arthur Hamilton that ended with a simple, poetic line: “Sing a rainbow!” She loved the phrase so much she called him immediately. As Arthur recalled: “She said, ‘It’s a wonderful title for a song—who’s going to write it?’ I told her, ‘It’s yours now.’ And she said, ‘Oh no, those words are yours.’” Arthur went on to write “Sing a Rainbow”, featured in ‘Pete Kelly’s Blues’, a film that earned Peggy an Oscar nomination
