The Alexandrov Ensemble, commonly known as the Red Army Choir is the official army choir of the Russian armed forces. Founded during the Soviet era, the ensemble consists of a male choir, an orchestra, and a dance ensemble. The choir was founded in 1928. Tragedy stuck the ensemble in December 2016. Sixty four members of the ensemble were heading from Sochi to Russia's air base in Syria to perform a New Year's concert for troops when their plane crashed into the Black Sea. All 92 people on board
